Disabled teenager in line for compensation after hospital mistakes
A disabled teenager may be in line to receive millions of pounds in compensation after a hospital has admitted making mistakes over his delivery.
James Hammond was left with cerebral palsy - a physical condition which affects movement and coordination - after being starved of oxygen for five minutes following his birth.
The 16-year-old requires 24-hour care and needs assistance in all his daily activities.
His mother, Elizabeth, alleges that Dr Yehudi Gordon failed to initiate a caesarean section and was therefore to blame for her son's disability.
She claims that the doctor advised her that a natural birth was possible, despite the fact her baby was in a breech position and that doctors at another hospital had recommended caesarean section.
According to high court writ, Dr Gordon admits liability in the case but the two sides are thought to be unable to agree on the size of a potential payout.
