Prosecutions made after man loses hand in workplace injury
Two prosecutions have been made following an incident in which a worker lost one of his hands.
The accident took place in March last year when the employee was operating a mixer machine that was unguarded.
Prior to the incident, production operative Graham Parker had been asked to fix the guard but had failed to do so.
During a recent hearing, Mr Parker was issued a fine of £500 after pleading guilty to health and safety breaches.
In addition, international process and conveyor belting provider Ammeraal Beltech was ordered to pay £20,000 plus costs of £1,143.
Commenting on the case, Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector Paul Yeadon said: "The HSE will not hesitate to prosecute employers who put the health and safety of their workers in danger, or employees who similarly endanger their colleagues."
He went on to state that the injured worker will have to live with the consequences of the safety failings for the rest of his life.
