Woman receives £7k injury compensation

A woman who suffered broken bones during a cycling accident has been awarded in excess of £7,000 in personal injury compensation.

According to the York Press, Lauren Wilkinson sustained a shattered jaw when she hit a pothole in a road in York in May 2006 as the hazard caused her to flip head-first over her handlebars as she cycled to work.

Ms Wilkinson, who was 17 years of age at the time of the incident, took legal action against the city's council - which has a section on its website dedicated to members of the public reporting pothole problems - for negligence as she claimed the authority had not kept the surface in a safe and suitable condition.

She initially won her claim in September 2009, the news source added, but was denied the money when the council launched an appeal.

However, Miss Wilkinson has now received a settlement of £7,360 for her ordeal.
