Report: 23% struggle with stress at work

A large proportion of professionals across the UK are struggling with stress at work, a new study has shown.

According to research conducted by Aviva, some 23 per cent of employees in all sectors have serious issues with mental anxiety associated with their job duties in the aftermath of the recession.

The firm's latest Health of the Workplace Report revealed that workers are being put under immense amounts of strain due to the fact their responsibilities have broadened because of the need of their company to do more with less.

Indeed, it was found that collectively, professionals in Britain put in 26 million extra hours over and above their contractual requirements every single day.

Dr Douglas Wright, head of clinical development for Aviva, observed: "Working excessively can have a huge impact on people's mental and physical wellbeing."

This comes after the Surrey Comet revealed that the number of people needing time off from their positions at Kingston Council has risen by 60 per cent in recent years.
