Gas explosion to lead to damages claim 2281

Burns and scarring sustained during an accident at work could lead to a labourer pursuing a personal injury compensation claim.

Stephen Rowley was hurt in an explosion at the training ground of Macclesfield Town - who play in the fourth tier of English professional football - while working there for builder Paul Leonard in September 2009.

At the time of the incident, Mr Rowley was using a power tool in order to take away damaged pipework from a septic tank at the facility in Knutsford when the machinery struck an underground pipe containing liquid petroleum gas.

Sparks subsequently set alight and the 43-year-old was engulfed in a fireball, leaving him with burns on his face, neck and arms.

In a case heard at Macclesfield Magistrates' Court, Mr Leonard was found guilty off breaking health and safety regulations, meaning his employee could now decide to take civil legal action against him.
