Councillor seeking damages following accident

Personal injury compensation is being sought by a senior councillor in Yorkshire following an accident in a public place.

Councillor John Campbell, deputy to Lord Mayor Dr Sylvia Dunkley of Sheffield, has decided to take legal action against the organisers of the Lowedges Festival after a chair collapsed under him at the event in August this year.

The official represents the Richmond region of the city and was invited to open the festival by the Greenhill and Bradway Tenants and Residents Association, which has indicated it will challenge his claim for damages.

Stephen Rich, secretary of the body, commented: "He seemed to be all right and proceeded to open the event. No ambulance or medical help was asked for."

Councillor Campbell - who has suffered with serious illness in the recent past - has not given details of his case against the organisation but remains intent on receiving compensation for his supposed ordeal.
