Waste management worker to seek damages after fall?

Broken bones suffered during an accident at work could lead to a man suing his employer for personal injury compensation.

The unnamed employee suffered a fractured elbow and a damaged foot when he fell a distance of around four metres while working for Neales Waste Management - a firm established in 1991 - in Blackburn last September.

At the time of this incident, the 44-year-old was attempting to remove rubbish that had become caught on the roof of a collection vehicle as the Walker Industrial Park when the access fixings on the truck gave way.

He subsequently fell and an investigation conducted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found the firm had not put adequate safety procedures in place to protect its workers.

Imran Siddiqui, inspector at the HSE, observed: "The employee at Neales was lucky he wasn't more seriously injured in the fall. He could easily have suffered life-changing injuries as a result."
