Medical negligence leads to damages award

An instance of medical negligence has resulted in a woman represented by Russell Jones & Walker being awarded personal injury compensation.

The unnamed female, who is 42 years old, has received an undisclosed sum in damages after she underwent an operation at the Countess of Chester Hospital -managed by the Western Cheshire NHS Trust - in March 2004 which has resulted in her requiring a mobility scooter.

She needed surgery on a problem in her right foot in order to help correct some inward-facing toes, but during the procedure her big toe was left too short, which has severely impacted upon her balance and left her in constant pain.

The patient was represented in her case for damages by Russell Jones & Walker and Paul Sankey, partner of the law firm, commented that "the impact of this disastrous surgery has been devastating".

Mr Sankey added that the sum will help her to meet the "considerable financial costs" of her disability.
