Roofers could seek compensation after fall

Personal injury compensation claims could be forthcoming from two roofing experts after they both suffered injuries during an accident at work.

Billy Smith and Ashley Barton fell a distance of more than three metres to the ground when the scaffolding they were working on collapsed due to an instance of miscommunication with some fellow employees.

As a result of the accident, Mr Smith sustained a back injury while Mr Burton suffers from a form of post-traumatic stress after he suffered a head injury and a torn muscle in his shoulder and subsequently had to miss two months of work.

Russell Smith - an inspector for the Health and Safety Executive, the national watchdog on such cases - criticised Select Estates - the firm the men were working for - on the grounds of their negligence.

He added: "Falls from height are the biggest causes of workplace deaths and it's crucial that employers make sure work is properly planned, supervised and carried out to protect staff from these risks."
