TUC establishes new body for asbestos-related disease victims

People suffering with asbestos-related diseases in one area of the UK may be given some assistance in their pursuit of personal injury compensation by the creation of a new body designed to help them.

According to the Sunderland Echo, the Trades Union Congress - an organisation that represents more than six million workers across the country - has established the Northern Region Asbestos Support and Campaign Group.

This has been designed to offer the victims and families of those suffering with conditions such as asbestosis and mesothelioma in and around Sunderland support and advice on how they can deal with their illness - which may involve the process of seeking civil damages from a former employer.

Maggie Fitzsimmons, an official at the group, observed: "Often people do not know where to turn and the benefits system can seem complicated. We can cut through the jargon and paperwork to help sufferers and their families."
