According to the Scotsman, Robert Young is seeking a five-figure settlement from Lothian Buses - a firm with more than 2,000 employees - after the chair he was sitting on in the company's canteen during a tea break collapsed.
Mr Young claims this incident - which took place in May 2010 - left him with chronic back pain that required physiotherapy, as well as injuries to his elbow and thigh, meaning he is now unable to complete full driving shifts.
In legal documents to be heard in a case at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, Mr Young has stated he endured a "whiplash-style" injury to his spine and now also suffers from mental health issues such as depression.
However, his employer is disputing this claim on the grounds that he already had pre-existing back problems before the accident.
