Teenager seeks damages after accident at work

An accident at work that caused a teenager to sustain severe burns and scarring has led to her seeking personal injury compensation.

According to the Northampton Chronicle & Echo, Hannah Foulkes suffered serious damage to her hand and arm when she slipped and fell into a deep fat fryer while working at the Super Sausage cafe in Northampton in September 2010.

The 16-year-old was operating as a cookery assistant and a case at Northampton Magistrates' Court was told she had not been given any health and safety training prior to starting the job.

Miss Faulkes experienced "excruciating pain" at the time of the accident and, although her physical injuries have now healed, she still has nightmares about the incident.

Christine Kellerman, the girl's mother, commented: "She has been incredibly lucky to recover from her injuries. But the psychological impact has also been greater than we imagined."

This comes after pensioner Brian Leek suffered serious burns while taking a shower at The Gouldings care home on the Isle of Wight.
