Arm loss to lead to compensation claim?

Arm loss to lead to compensation claim 2468

Personal injury compensation may be sought by a groundsman after an accident at work that resulted in his left arm being severed.

The unnamed 25-year-old was cutting back bushes in Spennymore for Durham County Council in August 2009 when his limb got dragged into a wood chipping machine and got cut off at the shoulder.

At the time of this incident, the professional was feeding the trimmings from the plants into the powerful piece of equipment when his glove or sleeve got caught, leading to his arm coming into contact with the machine's moving parts.

He was subsequently airlifted to hospital but doctors were unable to save his arm and, as a result, he now suffers both mentally and physically due to the dramatic effect the injury has had on his day-to-day life.

Victoria Wise of the Health and Safety Executive commented: "This was a tragic but avoidable incident that resulted in a young man experiencing a traumatic loss."
