Hand injury may lead to compensation claim 2587

A serious hand injury sustained during an accident at work could result in a man launching a compensation claim.

Jamie Roden suffered three severed tendons in his hand while working for his employer the Salop Sand & Gravel Supply Company in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, in September last year.

At the time of this incident, the 26-year-old was attempting to clear a blockage in a machine used to bag up quarried material when his hand got caught by a heat-sealing device which contained a blade.

An investigation into the accident by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that Mr Roden's employer had allowed him to carry out this task despite the fact the machine was still running.

Furthermore, the equipment was not fitted with a safety guard and HSE inspector David Evans commented: "This incident could have been easily avoided if simple measures had been taken by the company."
