Man could seek compensation after losing part of finger 2632

Compensation may be sought from a manufacturing company after an accident at work resulted in an employee losing the tip of his finger.

Vaughan Thomas was injured while working for Cardiff-based firm MIB Manufacturing's factory in Blaina for the first time in April last year.

The 21-year-old had been given some gloves after he was asked to help load and upload steel at the premises and one of these items later became entangled in the drill bit of a machine used to put holes in frames made of the material.

As a result, the top part of Mr Thomas's ring finger on his right hand was severed down to his first knuckle.

A subsequent investigation by the Health and Safety Executive found that the professional had not been given any advice on how to use this equipment safely.

Hugh Emment, an inspector at the body, commented: "Serious incidents involving inadequately guarded drills are unfortunately too common."
