Personal injury compensation amounts increase by 10%

Compensation settlements to increase by 10 from April 2013 2695

The amounts of personal injury compensation paid for various types of accidents such as car crashes and work accidents is set to increase from next year.

In a decision handed down at the Court of Appeal today, Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge confirmed that personal injury compensation amounts paid will rise by ten per cent as of April 1st 2013, the Independent reports.

This reform comes as part of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 and will see the current No Win No Fee Conditional Fee Agreement abolished.

Furthermore, legal representatives will be able to claim a maximum of 25 per cent of any compensation granted as their success fee, which is a significant reduction on the current level of 100 per cent.

Lord Judge explained that these changes have been "unconditionally endorsed and supported" by the Judiciary on the basis that they represent a "coherent package" of reforms to Britain's legal system.
