Fall from height at work injures two men

Falls at work may lead to compensation claims 2666

The two men were injured after falling from a platform in a work accident at Mira Limited's Watling Street site near Nuneaton.

While one worker came away from the accident with a bruised eye and a cut to the back of the head, his colleague required six weeks off work after breaking his collar bone.

A Health & Safety Executive investigation revealed the company had failed to make the necessary preparations for working from height, as six employees attempted to fix a motorised fan to the ceiling of the building.

Two of the six men fell from a height of 2.2 metres, falling to the floor below when the mesh mezzanine platform beneath their feet became loose. Both men are expected to claim work accident compensation from their employer' insurance.

Alison Cook, HSE inspector said of the firm: "It put six workers at unnecessary risk and fell far short of the legal standard required when planning and organising such complex maintenance work at height."
