Teenager suffers hand injury in work accident

Teenager to seek damages for severed thumb 2690

Rory Stamper severed his thumb on a log splitter while working at premises owned by Cedardale in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire, in September last year.

The accident occurred while the 18-year-old worker was using the equipment to cut pieces of timber, when he accidentally pressed down a pedal with his foot that lowered a splitting blade.

The blade then came into contact with Mr. Stamper's hand and he subsequently had to take four weeks off work due to the seriousness of his had injury. He now struggles to carry out everyday tasks such as fastening buttons, and he is expected to claim work accident compensation for his injuries and for lost pay.

An investigation conducted by the Health & Safety Executive revealed that the machinery he was using at the time did not comply with current safety requirements.
